Let the games begin. President Obamas Tax compromise Proposal is being challenged by non other than his own party. The Democrats ! One would think that they feel they have some kind of mandate, and that they still have the power, clout, and support to challenge their own President with regard to tax breaks for the wealthiest of the wealthy. They also think that they can do this by taking an axe to the poor, unemployed, middle class and the lower middle class people in this country, who, I might add have had the crap kicked out of them throughout this recession from day one!

I think they should take a carefull, very carefull look at the statistics of the last election, where they, the Democrats were slammed by the American electorate. Hello, this is not, I repeat not a Democrat mandate. I might add, in case some of my readers are figuring that it might have been a Republican mandate instead; That too is in fact not the case! But my friends, I assure you that the American people have spoken, and both parties had better take heed.

Now, let’s get back to this Obama thing.  The Presidents Tax compromise with Republicans was a must do. He had everyone on his mind, and realized that the big loser here without compromise was the poor, middle class, upper middle class and the unemployed, if he did not reach compromise before December 31, 2010.  You would say yeah, but the Rich lose out too. True, quite true, but they can absorb their loss, because of sheer wealth. The other folks here can not. They just lose big time.

There is however another reason for supporting the Obama Proposal.  That is in the interest of continuing the economic recovery already in progress, although slow it’s still moving forward and in progress. By declining the extension of Unemployment Benefits, and tax reductions for Lower income and moderate income households, we risk reversing that progress, and possibly throwing the whole country back into recession. Look, this has been a tough recession, and it is not yet out of the danger zone. We can still slip. Now when we see recovery, the best we can do is coax it forward. The continuation of tax reductions as well as the reduction in Social Security Taxes, gives extra cash to families. They feed that into the American economy, and the result is enhanced recovery.

An interesting argument could be made that when the Federal Government handed out Bail Out money to the Fat Cats on Wall Street, all they did was sit on it and then hand whooping bonus checks to their executives. Not much went back into the economy. However, Conservatives figure that by handing big cash incentives to the Richest of the Rich that creates jobs, and that boosts the Economy. Uhhhhh…… Where, may I ask, are the jobs?

President Obama saw the handwriting on the wall. He knows that when  the Republicans take control on the Hill, that there will be little if any compromise. However, if he could cut a deal early in the game, one that benefits us all then its worth letting the richest of the rich have their tax cut for now. As the President said during his Press Conference ” There are differences of opinion on this matter, however, now is not the time to fight that battle. We can argue our positions during the course of the next two years” he said. The one thing the president did not want to do was to argue his case at the cost of those who need tax relief and an  extension unemployment benefits. This was a wise decision. Those who think that they are doing us a service by attempting to block this legislation are only establishing fodder for the wrath of the American People.

Understand this, Democrats will be held totally accountable if this Bill fails. They are the ones blocking it. They are the ones trying to kill it. They are the ones attempting to embarrass the President. In the end, it will be Democrats realizing that they should have followed the presidents lead.

I assure you, this opportunity will come just once. After January 20, 2011….All bets are off!

That’s my point of view……What do you think? ……  Drop a Line and if not, that’s OK too, but your view is important too since …….. We’re all in this together!

Have a great night…….. and as usual……. God Bless America!!!

I am 62 years old. I've been blogging for several years. I am into History and Politics as well as currant events. The latter being the main issues covered on these pages. I was a Community Advocate for twenty years, and a volunteer aide in a State Representatives Office in my home state of Michigan. While I have basically ceased these activities, I still watch the world around me closely and report on it as much as I can, which I might add is often. I encourage comments on my Blogs. I only ask that we keep our opinions clean and without insults threats or intimidation. I hope you take time to read The Horton Journal, and look forward to your comments.
