TALK RADIO ENCOURAGES POLITICAL TENSION .

All too often Talk Radio Shows, such as Rush Lembaugh, Glenn Beck and Shaun Hanady’s create a volatile Political Environment that is keeping the tension high in the National Political Arena. Most of these programs support and promote only the Conservative Right, and the Republican philosophy.  There is no equal time, and there are no Democrat leaning programs to speak of. The primary programing for the Left comes out of Public Radio, and in their quest for dominance Conservative Talk Radio shows promote the elimination of Public TV and Radio altogether.

At issue here of course is the assurance that the only message that gets out to the public is that of the Conservative point of view. Every effort is made to silence the Left. Anyone trying to challenge their point of view is bullied on the air, intimidated, and then discarded.  The reason this occurs is that most of the responders trying to challenge their viewpoint are not prepared, and are of course, not professional commentators. As a result they walk into a firestorm. While Rush has his Talking Points and Stack of papers as he calls them, the responder has only a position, with no support, and not being professional quickly falls to the hosts intimidating challenges.

I do not advocate the elimination of Talk Radio shows. I believe in freedom of the Press. They have the right to their point of view. The problem is, and at issue is that I have a right to mine. Of course, as a Blogger, I have more of an ability to voice my viewpoint, but access to the public is limited. However, there are those who advocate cutting Bloggers off as well. Often what they say has credence. What they say leaks out, and then a major issue is born. Bloggers sometimes become the author of a major debate issue.  While many lean left, or to the middle of the road, there are Conservative Bloggers who are there as well. They often spend their time however, playing the part of the School Yard Bully, even trying to control the Blogging Community. Problem is that there are too many of us out here. So their tactic is to just eliminate Blogging, unless you hold some media credentials which of course they approve of.

I don’t see that happening though because it comes in contrast to their primary defense of Talk Radio, Freedom of the Press.

However, there is another reason for all this talk about the open hostile nature of Talk Radio and their intimidating, Rhetorical behavior on the air. While they pull a lot of anger out of listeners who then vent their frustration on the Internet and thus opening a flurry of often offensive if not threatening verbage, many are becoming more and more concerned whether this is a cause to some of the violent acts we see occurring in the public sector. The recent shootings in Tucson Arizona are an example of those concerns. There are now open calls from public officials to tone down the rhetoric, and intimidating behavior both on the Net and the Airwaves. I think that it is somewhat justified, but at the same time, realistically, it won’t last.

There needs to be however, a civil approach to Public Discussion. Politics as well as Currant events should be an open debate, and no one should ever feel intimidated or threatened because of their view on a given matter. Harsh responses, and accusations, and threats should never be allowed.

If Tucson taught us anything, it is that our words, and actions, as well as our responses to those with whom we disagree can have serious repercussions if the wrong people hear, or read them. We need to tone down the hostility. We have a strong nation. We have a great nation, and together we can quell the hostile nature of those who seek only to hype up issues and events for their own profit.

That is in fact what Talk Radio does. That is the real reason they are so defensive of their delivery tactics. It works. Rush, Glenn, Shaun, and other’s who deliver their hostile, exaggerated, half truth agendas do so by creating divisiveness, and a hostile community. They tell you things are worse. Our nation is falling apart. They hype a non existent National Emergency. They audience is at an all time high. That means they have high profile sponsors. Their concept works so well, that if they are forced to tone it down, they loose in sales, and sponsors would go away. These guys are Multi-Millionaires. They got there by creating the hostile environment that concerns so much of us today.

I still promote the idea that the FCC  should consider Regulatory Guidelines that hold such programs responsible if their agenda promotes violent acts.  I am not saying the Tucson was caused by these commentators. But it is in many opinions only a matter of time that some lone nut comes out of the woodwork, with a gun or a bomb, claiming that something has to be done, and that their perception of the world is based on the very hostile environment promoted by Talk Radio, and their exaggerated, one-sided agenda.

Then the there will be no defense for those promoting this form of entertainment. And I might add, that is exactly what it is……..A form of entertainment!

That’s my view point…….Yours are welcome……. I look forward to hearing from you.

Have a great day and as usual………….God Bless America.

About THE HORTON JOURNAL A POLITICAL PERSPECTIVE

I am 62 years old. I've been blogging for several years. I am into History and Politics as well as currant events. The latter being the main issues covered on these pages. I was a Community Advocate for twenty years, and a volunteer aide in a State Representatives Office in my home state of Michigan. While I have basically ceased these activities, I still watch the world around me closely and report on it as much as I can, which I might add is often. I encourage comments on my Blogs. I only ask that we keep our opinions clean and without insults threats or intimidation. I hope you take time to read The Horton Journal, and look forward to your comments.
