While I don’t think all this should be taken seriously, Donald Trump has emerged as the leading Republican contender by some early primary State leaders.  The interest leans  heavy toward name recognition rather than true gut experience in the political arena however.

They like what Trump has to say. He is ready to fight off Health Care Reform as put forth by President Obama.  He’s spicy, to say the least, and is already attacking potential competitors like Mitt Romney, who he called a mere little business man.  He made a comment not too long ago, that China is the enemy, at least economically.  His current positions have thus raised the interest of Party leaders and as a result Mr. Trump is ahead of Sarah Palin, at least for now.

These Republican officials and activists have stoped short of calling Trump the eventual nominee.  They say that the party is hungry for forceful, challenging, up front and in your face challengers, that excite the over all electorate.

According to The Associated Press,  there is also widespread talk about social conservatives:  Rep  Michele Bachmann of Minnesota, who would be the first president elected directly from the House since James Garfield, and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, who lost his 2006 re-election bid by a landslide.  Even Herman Cain, the little – known, wealthy former pizza chain executive, has been mentioned by Republican voters.

While these folks are attention geters, the party’s establishment does not see them as the likeliest contenders to defeat Obama.

Republicans traditionally pick party veterans who have waited their turn and earned their nominations after years spent as governors, Senators, Vice president, etc; However, the field lacks front-runners with the calabar of Bob Dole, George Bush. Republicans admit that there is a vacuum in the GOP.

This of course could serve President Obama well. He is already seeking a second term, and despite the efforts of heavy hitters like Rush Lembaugh, Sean Hannady, and other Ultra – Conservative Radio Talk Show Hosts, the President is leading the pack.  At least for now.  the election of course is far off.

However, if the states are showing any trend of the attitudes of the general voter; the middle class, and lower middle-class voters, the major cuts in budgets, cuts in services, reduced revenues, increased taxes, and a refusal to increase taxes on the Rich, the general electorate is waning in the direction of Obama.  They feel that Republicans do not represent their cause.

Some far Right Conservatives who were elected to Congress have delivered sharp responses to the people back home when they took action that effected Middle and lower middle class voters. “You elected us to deal with the ever-growing budget deficit, and out of control Federal spending, and we intend on doing what we were sent here to do.  Once again, feel good phrases designed specifically to excite and entice voters to vote for them.  Then the voters find out that they are the actual victim.  They are snapped to reality in realizing it was not what their new representative in Washington said during the campaign that was important.  It was what he did not say during the campaign that was of real importance.

realistically however, these polls measure name recognition rather than actual potential electability.  Time will tell as to whether Donald Trump can stand up to the pressures of running for President and the disclosures necessary to be considered a serious candidate for President. the same serves true for anyone else seeking the office, including Sarah Palin.

This is what I do know.  Whoever the Republican candidate is,  he/she will have to be able to challenge the Obama agenda in a responsible way that causes the voter to ask pertinent questions, and to ponder the events of the Obama administration, and the results up to this time.

Regardless of what Radio Talk Show Hosts try to say, the charges they make, one must remember that these guys are all entertainers, whose show is centered on making money from advertising.  They are not the leaders of this country.  At that moment, when voters step inside that booth, and make their decision, they for all practical purposes are the real leaders of this country!

So regardless of who the early contenders seem to be, whats of real importance is who will be left standing in the end. Because whoever that person is, they will be the challenger to the obama agenda. If obama is re-elected, then it will not be some hack in a back door boiler room that brought it about. It won’t be some deep dark secret Loyal Order that changed everyone’s mind.  it will be the people of The United States.

it’s too early right now to figure out who the last one standing will be.  However, one thing is for sure, it most likely will not be Donald Trump. If it were, then this country is in far more serious trouble that even I ever imagined.

Have a great night Folks……… and remember

God Bless America!

I am 62 years old. I've been blogging for several years. I am into History and Politics as well as currant events. The latter being the main issues covered on these pages. I was a Community Advocate for twenty years, and a volunteer aide in a State Representatives Office in my home state of Michigan. While I have basically ceased these activities, I still watch the world around me closely and report on it as much as I can, which I might add is often. I encourage comments on my Blogs. I only ask that we keep our opinions clean and without insults threats or intimidation. I hope you take time to read The Horton Journal, and look forward to your comments.
