In Chengdu China the desk where Ran Yunfel wrote books and a daily blog stands idle today. Yunfel sits far away in a jail.  His computer confiscated by police, his desk stacked with books, papers and old blogs. His dog Dickens barks on the outside patio while his wife Wang Wei speaks quietly, fighting back tears.

Yunfel, a self-described bookworm, writer, and a tireless Blogger, is among some 60 individuals detained by the Chinese government, charged with subversion., in what is described as one of the harshest crackdowns in recent history. China is still a police state. Those who write anything that smacks of governmental opposition of any kind, are subject to arrest, detention, and branding as subversive as far as government is concerned. While he seeks to get the word out in this form of new social media – Blogging – we are reminded that while we here in the United States enjoy the freedom to voice our opinion, redress our government, and oppose as well as support the cause s that we choose, there are places in this world, that the mere mention of support, opposition, and question, are subjects that justify arrest.

We in The United States should always be reminded of the freedoms we enjoy. We should cherish those freedoms, and always stand ready to protect those freedoms. They are the foundation of this great nation. If we look away, if we ignore the plight of others, if do not respond to issues we feel are wrong, then one day we might also suffer the plight of Ran Yunfel.

All because we had the courage to rise up, and say what we thought. We must always protect Freedom.

Have a good day……….God Bess America.

I am 62 years old. I've been blogging for several years. I am into History and Politics as well as currant events. The latter being the main issues covered on these pages. I was a Community Advocate for twenty years, and a volunteer aide in a State Representatives Office in my home state of Michigan. While I have basically ceased these activities, I still watch the world around me closely and report on it as much as I can, which I might add is often. I encourage comments on my Blogs. I only ask that we keep our opinions clean and without insults threats or intimidation. I hope you take time to read The Horton Journal, and look forward to your comments.
