The New Poor ………. Growing In America

Poverty, a word that we always thought was destined for the non-educated, lower class people who never have had the opportunities that many of us have had.  You know, those folks living in the Getto of our nations cities. The ones who claim that they can’t get out. Those living in Roach infested, rat infested tenements in our major cities. You know the places that I am talking about.

However, all that is quickly changing all across The United States.  There is a new poor among us. These people have worked hard all their lives. They went to college, worked their way up the economic ladder. They built Mutual Funds, and 401(k’s), just like Dad did when they were growing up. They built their new home. Had an average of two kids, and were living the dream.  Then one day, through no fault of their own, when they least expected it, the world in which they lived turned upside down. everything they had, all their dreams, all their hopes, all their aspirations.  Everything they ever did, or thought that they might be able to do, was gone.  Everything gone. Their dreams, gone, their hopes, gone, their aspiration, gone, their incentive, gone.  There was nothing left.  Now, for so many there is nowhere to go.

They are Americas new poor. They live right next door. They suffer every day from hunger, poor health, growing debt. They have lost their job, are losing their unemployment.  They are not eligible for Social services because of the value of their home, which they can not sell at a competitive rate.  Yet soon, if something does not come around they won’t even have that.

It’s already happened to some, and more are on a slippery slope of economic doom as we write.  Some are already living with their families in a van, a car, under a bridge, walking the street.  No where to go, no help to be found, no place to rest.  they are the new poor.  They do not have the survival skills of the poorest of the poor. The ones who have been out there for years. the ones we all despise. The ones we hate. The ones who have somehow survived all these years on the streets of America.

Yet our government, well aware of this horrific mess, just stands there doing nothing. Worried about their own pocket,  greed, re-election, power and money.  They care nothing of these families because they do not even realize that they exist.

The new poor among us. a new breed of poverty, broken and battered after working so hard for so many years to do the right thing, only to have it all taken away from them.

And what you ask is being done to address this horrific problem.  In all too many cases nothing!

And I might add…….This my friends is only the beginning!

Have a good night……….Pray for America and the newest of the poor among us!

About THE HORTON JOURNAL A POLITICAL PERSPECTIVE

I am 62 years old. I've been blogging for several years. I am into History and Politics as well as currant events. The latter being the main issues covered on these pages. I was a Community Advocate for twenty years, and a volunteer aide in a State Representatives Office in my home state of Michigan. While I have basically ceased these activities, I still watch the world around me closely and report on it as much as I can, which I might add is often. I encourage comments on my Blogs. I only ask that we keep our opinions clean and without insults threats or intimidation. I hope you take time to read The Horton Journal, and look forward to your comments.
