Newt Gingrich has not learned much since his days in Congress. He for sure has not learned when to shut his mouth. Here is a man running for President of the United States and it seems he can resist going over the edge, making comments that have nothing to do with the campaign at hand. he insists on slinging insults at other candidates.  Throughout this campaign Newt Gingrich has made every effort, it seems, to make it personal.  His latest attack on Mitt Romney is an example of this trait.

It seems that Mr. Gingrich thinks that taking shots at Mr. Romney over his ability to speak french and his Morman related internship in france, is open fodder for the campaign for a Republican bid for the White House.  Instead of focusing on the issues, he insists on making personal insults toward his opponents.  I think it is out of line, and not consistent with what the people of this country want and expect from those who would be President of The United States.  The people want to know what stand they take on the issues of the day.  They are not concerned as to whether the candidate speaks another language, or has for some reason been to France, Spain, or Russia for that matter. They expect an aire of respectability and fairness, not some form of sleaze bag politics designed to paint a negative picture of his opponent.

The question has been posed as to why Newt has fallen so far by the wayside in this campaign. Well, I think this is the answer. Nobody wants a president in office who does not look before leaping, or one who does not think, ponder, and consider before speaking.  This is what got Mr. Gingrich in trouble in Congress, and what seems to have followed him to this campaign as well.  For a man who has a good understanding of American Politics, and understands the world situation and where we might be heading in the future, he still has not gotten past this unfortunate handicap of not knowing when he has gone too far. He does not understand that “Over the Top, is Over the Top.

That in itself is a sad commentary for such a smart man who would someday be President if he could just learn to keep his mouth shut.

That’s my point of view, I look forward to hearing yours.  Until then, have a great day, and as usual…..God Bless America!

I am 62 years old. I've been blogging for several years. I am into History and Politics as well as currant events. The latter being the main issues covered on these pages. I was a Community Advocate for twenty years, and a volunteer aide in a State Representatives Office in my home state of Michigan. While I have basically ceased these activities, I still watch the world around me closely and report on it as much as I can, which I might add is often. I encourage comments on my Blogs. I only ask that we keep our opinions clean and without insults threats or intimidation. I hope you take time to read The Horton Journal, and look forward to your comments.

You make some good points. I agree that Newt would be well-served to express his positive vision of America. We need a leader with vision. That’s Newt. We need a leader who won’t tinker around the edges, but will make serious structural changes in the size of our government and our destructive regulatory and tax system. That’s Newt. I live in Iowa. You have NO idea how much negative advertising Mitt ran against Newt in the month of December. It was relentless, and it worked. Newt lost over twenty points in the polls and plummeted to 4th, because he didn’t go negative. He had no choice but to respond forcefully to the smear job Romney laid on him. I don’t like this any more than you. I want to see Newt focus on his vision, which is powerful and is very well received by Independents as well as Conservatives. Good post. I look forward to reading more.
