Many Republicans are charging that president obama is creating an Entitlement Based Society, similar to the European structure.  They point to the increase in Social Security Disability claims in the U.S. as proof of their claims.  They do so however, without observing the total picture of the economic situation in The United States. I would argue that they are doing this purposely for political gain to garner votes in the 2012 election.

The facts are that as a result of the economic problems that have rippled across e country many States have been forced to reduce or even eliminate Social Services.  They have cut deeply into General Assistance programs, and reduced other emergency help programs across the board.  In Michigan they have not only tightened eligibility guidelines for assistance, but have tightened eligibility for unemployment benefits as well.  They have reduced Medicaid, and other emergency poverty level medical programs.  The result of course has been devastating for people falling through the cracks.

Now, that there is very little left to assist those who are falling deeper and deeper into poverty there is not much more choice but to seek disability assistance as a last resort.  It is not laziness, it is not people looking for the easy way out.  It is not a new form of welfare.  It is a last act of desperation for families who are not able to get the help they need to survive. The problem is not fading by any means, in fact, Republicans are right when they say the trend is growing.  But, they fail in recognition as why so many people are filing for social security Disability.

Continued cuts is safety Net programs, as well as SSD are going to have and bring about more serious problems. No doubt, the statistics for homelessness in The United States is on the rise. But I can assure the reader of this, that if this trend of Slash and Burning of  assistance programs continues the number of homeless individuals, as well as families, is going to grow astronomically in this country.

I find it all too disturbing that for the richest nation on earth, for the country that espouses the concept of freedom for all, one nation that pushes hard on other countries to assure that their citizens have the basics of life, that there are those in this country that would label our President as criminal for exposing the same concepts for his own country.

Maybe before we go to the polls, and vote for our nations leader we should first examine our inner selves, and consider whether we actually believe that in this nation of so much we should offer so little to those less fortunate that ourselves.

Yeah…..That might be a good idea!

Have a great day and as usual……..God Bless America!

I am 62 years old. I've been blogging for several years. I am into History and Politics as well as currant events. The latter being the main issues covered on these pages. I was a Community Advocate for twenty years, and a volunteer aide in a State Representatives Office in my home state of Michigan. While I have basically ceased these activities, I still watch the world around me closely and report on it as much as I can, which I might add is often. I encourage comments on my Blogs. I only ask that we keep our opinions clean and without insults threats or intimidation. I hope you take time to read The Horton Journal, and look forward to your comments.

Class war started about 30 years ago. Why are conservatives – who have been on the winning side for so long – acting so upset? Unbelievable!
