In what Democrats say is an attempt at compemise to gn passage of an extension in unemployment benefits, Conservative are nixing the proposal of a six week reduction in benefits unless those applying for the unemployment can be forced by State mandate to undergo drug testing or forced to get a GED.  Once again, Republican Conservatives just don’t get it. On one hand they want spending cuts, on the other they impose spending as a punitive action to insult the Unemployed by mandating Drug Testing or hinting at their alleged lack of education, by sending more dollars to prove some kind of point.

There is this assumption that anyone who is unemployed for any period of time is either on drugs or stupid.  Any way you cut it, that is the message that they are sending to the American people.

First of all, Congress helped create the muddled unemployment mess. They helped to bring about the Housing Crisis, they have all but destroyed the Realistate market, annie May and Freaddie Mac are still miren scandal, and holding a tight rope and keeping folks from saving their home.  Republicans figure that anyone who is unemployed is a lazy, drug infested, uneducated no account, and as a result therof should not eligable for unemployment.  Entitlements they figure, should be a punitive as well as insult program because if you really wanted to, they figure, you could get a job

The reality is that Conservatives are just out of touch with what is really going on out here.  Mitt Romney is a good example of this out of Zone Tone, when he made the statement that he was not concerned about the poor, because there is a saftey net protecting the truely poor. He is not concerned about the rich because they are doing just fine. But, he is concerned about the middle class.  Wait a minute Mitt. You need to realize that most of the Sftey Net has been elininated, many assistance programs have been dumped as well.  As for unemployment, folks, Unemployment in an entitlement payed for through our tax dollars.  We pay into the program to assure that if for some reason we lose our job, which in the past few years is a real posibility, that we are able to get unemployment benifits. Wait, let me re-phrase that, get our unemployment benifits that we earned through our tax dollars.

Congress needs to understand that Unemployment, like Social Security, like Social Security Disability is not Welfare. It is what it is, it was put there for a purpose, and they have no right to insult our integrity by turning every government entitlment into some sort of punitive program by assuming we are drug infested, low life, no-account lazy persons sitting on our back porch swilling a Beer at the expense of those who happen to be fortunate enough to have a job.

Now if that sounds partisan ……. then so be it. But it is the Republicans who make these lewd insulting assumptions about the American people.  Why?…………..Because, they’re out of touch!

Thats my point of view……………Have a great day and as usual …. God Bless America!  .

I am 62 years old. I've been blogging for several years. I am into History and Politics as well as currant events. The latter being the main issues covered on these pages. I was a Community Advocate for twenty years, and a volunteer aide in a State Representatives Office in my home state of Michigan. While I have basically ceased these activities, I still watch the world around me closely and report on it as much as I can, which I might add is often. I encourage comments on my Blogs. I only ask that we keep our opinions clean and without insults threats or intimidation. I hope you take time to read The Horton Journal, and look forward to your comments.
