I hate to say this, but every time I think President Obama has it right, he does or says something to screw it up. I was saying not long ago to a friend of mine that just about the time he seems all presidential he gets into trouble. Now, considering that this is an election year that is not good news at all for Mr. obama. This has been bothering me for more than a year or so. Wasn’t much of a concern before the two-year mark. But now that we are in the midst of an election year as a political pundant I am concerned.
His trip to Afghanistan was a great idea in recognition of the elimination, if you will, of Osama Bin-Laden. He basically took credit for something that he had all the right to take credit for. Two things though put a damper on the whole ceremony. The expansion of our commitment of soldiers to the Afghan theater, and of course the unfortunate situation that occurred no more than 90 minutes after he departed the country costing the lives of 7 military personnel.
His economic plan which basically says the way out of a recession is to spend more money out of money that does not exist. And the failures of various business assistance by the Federal government, by Presidential directive. Not good for his did folks. Now the possible if not probable rejection by the U.S> Supreme Court of his health care reform act, casts even more doubt on his ability to govern.
The alternative choice of Mr. Romney is not all that promising either. He was committed to similar healthcare reform in his home state as well. He also is a conservative which means that if elected his position of the way out of recession and deficit, is by forcing the middle class worker to pay the bill, as well as heavier taxes, and expanded tax breaks for the rich and ultra rich. The perception that Mr. Romney is out of touch with the common man is widespread as well. In short he himself is a multi millionaire and would, if elected, represent the rich.
I don’t think that President Obama will dump Mr. Biden as his Vice-Presidential choice, but much of the outcome of this election will depend on Mr. Romney’s choice for Vice-President. Look out if he is able to get Candalisa Rice to come on board. That kills the so-called racism perception. That can also have a major impact on the women’s vote.
While the race is not over yet, it is more important now than ever that Obama gets his act together. This idea that the American people are going to continue to excuse one blunder after another, and persistence to do the unpopular, ie; expanding our Afghan commitment, is not going to be tolerated. especially if Mr. Romney starts looking more confident and starts acting presidential himself. That is actually expressing policy issues and other such positions that would take place if he were elected.
It is only April. Romney could mess up, and that spells points for Mr. obama. However, if Romney starts gaining in points, and the press starts paying more serious attention to this contender for the White House, if the polls begin to reflect a shift in voter opinion, as they seem to be hinting, this race for President of The United States could turn out to be an all out cat fight. Only time will tell. At issue though, for Mr. obama, time is running out.
That’s my point of view, and as usual I look forward to your responses. Meanwhile, I hope you had a great weekend, and, as usual………….God Bless America!
