President Barrack Obama has won re-election. He has been given another chance to clean up the American economy, get us back to work and more time to cleanup a deficit that might take a generation to resolve.  However, it was not a mandate.  It was more a reflection that people believed that if Governor Romney were to have won the election most of the benefits that have kept them through this economic turmoil would be removed, and as a result they would be left to coast on their own. That was something, that without jobs, they knew they could not accomplish.  Voters were compelled to believe that Mr. Romney did not represent their interests, and was more concerned about big business and corporate enterprise rather than Joe Six Pack.  All this talk about free hand outs and living on the dole was not the issue. They saw this as help at a time when help was desperately needed.

The massive cuts that would come with a Romney Administration would focus more on the middle class and the poor. While the intent would be to jolt people back to work, it would force them to take on minimum wage jobs by which they would be unable to support themselves or their families. Yes, it is true that there has been a tick upward in the job market, but most of those jobs are minimum wage scale. that is the main reason people remained on unemployment, it was because they made more there than on the job.  It is in short, a matter of survival.

However, the Romney machine felt that it should be a matter of survival of the fittest. Them that’s got, gets, them that don’t get nothing.

It is true though that we face hard times. Those hard times very well might be just around the corner.  We are talking about a mandatory tax increase if Congress does not act by December 31st of this year. Serious budgetary cuts if Congress fails to act as well.  It is mandated because of the recognition that we have to begin the process of cutting our spending, and working positively to reduce the national debt, now in the trillions.

The American Infrastructure, that is our utilities and bridges and roadways are in serious condition. We have to work to restore them as well. Our sewage systems are another area where replacement is an absolute mandate. Our nation is dire need of repair.  We put it off, and put it off. Well, there is no more room to just kick the can down the road.

However, in order to seriously accomplish anything, Congress has to come together. There can no longer be the grid-lock that has been the norm.  Mitch McConnell has to realize that there is no longer any time to stall Congress and refuse comprimise of any kind. Republicans and Democrats will have to cross the aisle. They will have to sit down and reason together. That means everyone will have to give and take a little here and there. Most important, placing Partisan Politics aside they as a united group will have to work for the better of the United States.  Republican and Democrat will have to take their muddy boots off and leave their pet interests at the door. If they refuse, and return to the old ways of insults, allegations, charges, and grid lock and Congress boils to a stop. Then Americans as a united force must step up to the plate and demand that Congress step up and do their job…..Representing the people of the United States.

If we do not move forward in the next four years as a nation, doing what has to be done, equal, and in the best interest of the nation, then we as a nation lose.  If the nation looses, we the people lose as well. And I assure you that the loss of the people will be far worse than anything we ever  dreamed of.

That’s my point of view. i look forward to your insights as well.  Let me add, that I have had a blast covering election 2012. Now we return to regular coverage of other issues, and matters of the day.

Have a great day and as usual………God Bless America!

I am 62 years old. I've been blogging for several years. I am into History and Politics as well as currant events. The latter being the main issues covered on these pages. I was a Community Advocate for twenty years, and a volunteer aide in a State Representatives Office in my home state of Michigan. While I have basically ceased these activities, I still watch the world around me closely and report on it as much as I can, which I might add is often. I encourage comments on my Blogs. I only ask that we keep our opinions clean and without insults threats or intimidation. I hope you take time to read The Horton Journal, and look forward to your comments.
