Israel bombed the Hamas controlled areas of the Gaza Strip today and indicates that a ground war is a real possibility.  As missiles flew back and forth over the fragile border, injuring men women and children on both sides, hospitals were packed with casualties.

Tanks and several thousand israeli troops gathered on the border in obvious preparation for a ground offensive. According to the Associated Press “The intensified airstrikes came as Egyptian-led attempts to broker a cease-fire and end Israel’s four-day Gaza offensive gained momentum. The leaders of Hamas and two key allies, Qatar and Turkey, were in Cairo for talks with Egyptian officials, and the Arab League was holding an emergency meeting.”

The White House said President Obama was also in touch with the Egyptian and Turkish leaders.  The United States has solidly backed Israel so far. Speaking on Air Force One, deputy security advisor Ben Rhodes said that the White House believes Israel has the right to defend itself against enemy attack and that the Israelis will make their own decisions about military tactics and operations.

However, despite ongoing negotiations, more than 120 rockets slammed into Israel but that more than 950 targets have been struck by Israel. Egypt continues to attempt broker a cease-fire, the AP said today.

Turkey Prime Minister Recap Erdogan told reporters that he has proposed that Turkey, Egypt, the United States and Russia help broker a simultaneous cease-fire between Israel and Hamas. It would be good to work on it rapidly to solve the matter within 24 hours, because the death toll is mounting, the Turkish Prime Minister said, reports said.

And the sooner the better. As the rockets fly back and forth, and casualties rise so to does the probability of a ground offensive.  Then the skirmish will no doubt become full-blown war. that will not do anyone any good. One thing is sure, the sooner talks begin, the sooner innocent civilians will sleep easier without the fear of dying in the night.

That’s how it stands in Israel.  What do you think? Drop a line, and if not that’s OK too. Until then have a nice day, and as usual………….God Bless America!

I am 62 years old. I've been blogging for several years. I am into History and Politics as well as currant events. The latter being the main issues covered on these pages. I was a Community Advocate for twenty years, and a volunteer aide in a State Representatives Office in my home state of Michigan. While I have basically ceased these activities, I still watch the world around me closely and report on it as much as I can, which I might add is often. I encourage comments on my Blogs. I only ask that we keep our opinions clean and without insults threats or intimidation. I hope you take time to read The Horton Journal, and look forward to your comments.
