After a day of lock-down throughout the Boston Metro area, sounds of sirens and gunfire, the participation of thousands of police officers, ATF, and the FBI, Federal Marshals and whoever else they could muster up two men who allegedly set off home-grown bombs at the Boston Marathon were finally out of circulation. One dead the other in critical condition in a Boston area hospital under close watch of U.S. Federal agents.  Shot twice, but still alive suspect two, as I will call him clings to life and Federal prosecutors and investigators await for him to recover enough to try to glean answers from him, so all of us can be satisfied that we at least have some idea what in the world these two were thinking of.

It boggles the mind to think that two, mind you, just two obviously nut case individuals could wreak such havoc on American life. That two, just two, terrorists could cause a situation where thousands, not hundreds of police officers, Federal, State, Local, City, and even volunteers could launch the largest manhunt ever, in one the cities that depicts what this country is all about, Boston, Mass. a bastion of freedom, can be shut down, in a martial law like scenario for an entire day, guns blazing, frieghtened citizens hunkered in basements fearing for their lives, in the nation that is personification of what it is to be free. Yes, it boggles the mind. Makes us all wonder what it is that this great nation, the land of the home and the brave is coming to.

In a blazing gun battle suspect no: 1 is gunned down on the street as hundreds of cop’s try to capture two men who have become the center of a massive manhunt. Talk radio, TV, National and Local all over America stopped everything to bring us the blow-by-blow of every detail. We sat amazed at the amount of police involved. To capture just, just two mixed up individuals who had a grudge and had no problem maiming hundreds, killing three, including a little boy just starting his life. His sister looses a leg. One has both legs blown away, Anothers arm is gone. The carnage, the blood, the smoke, and the stunned silence at first followed by moans, and then horrified cries of dreadful pain and anguish. For a moment, all America stood frozen, once again like 911. Then the horror of it all followed quickly by the anger, of a once again awakened giant.  We hoped, always hoped, that terror would be a thing of the past. Never, ever anything like 911, not here, not in America. But then, came Boston. Then came the horror. Then came the sullen reminder of just how dangerous a world we live in.

After a day of house to house searches throughout Metro Boston, suspect two could not be found. We can’t keep people holed up forever. They have to get out. The curfew was canceled, and within a half hour, one man accomplished what thousands of police searchers could not. He found the 19-year-old suspect two, holed up in his boat covered in the back yard. He described the interior of his boat as a bloody mess. In what seemed a moment, it was on again. Everyone dashing back into their houses, everyone in their basement. More gun shots. Then, after a wait, as all America watched in hope, a tweet from a police officer, We have him in custody. Our nightmare was over.

As hundreds of Law Enforcement officers drove off, to wherever it was they had to go, thousands of Bostonians cheered them on. Thanking them for the job well done. Reminded that in 99.9% of the cases most cops are good-natured, honest, hard-working, dedicated, compassionate, committed men and women who wish only to assure the protection and safety of those whom they are charged to protect. They did just that for the last week. They did just that yesterday, they finished that task last night, as they carried the last suspect to a hospital for emergency care.

Meanwhile in a small town in Texas, in whole community mourns as a Fertilized plant exploded killing a maiming even more Americans. We can now center our attention there. Where more families, prepare to bury their dead. Our President stood behind a podium and reminded them that we had not forgotten them. They too are in our prayers, and thoughts. In an act of kindness funeral homes there clarified that those who lost loved ones should not worry. They will pay the costs of the funerals there.

I am sure that we all want answers. Boston want’s answers as to why these two nut cases decided to do what they did.  In Texas, they want to know why and how an entire plant can explode ending the lives of so many, maiming others as well. But as usual, in such disasters, as was in 911, as it was in Boston, so too it was in a small town in Texas.  As people ran away from the danger, there were those, who without thought or concern for self, ran in. That my friends is America. That is what unites us, that is what makes America free. You might harm our spirit just a tad. But our will, determination, and compassion for our communities, friends, loved ones, and neighbors, will never falter. We still rise up from whatever debres there is and come together, united, committed, for one cause, Freedom.

We are one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all!

I am 62 years old. I've been blogging for several years. I am into History and Politics as well as currant events. The latter being the main issues covered on these pages. I was a Community Advocate for twenty years, and a volunteer aide in a State Representatives Office in my home state of Michigan. While I have basically ceased these activities, I still watch the world around me closely and report on it as much as I can, which I might add is often. I encourage comments on my Blogs. I only ask that we keep our opinions clean and without insults threats or intimidation. I hope you take time to read The Horton Journal, and look forward to your comments.
