Washington’s latest political scandal involves a little-known unit of the Internal revenue Service that determines which groups don’t have to pay taxes. Staff in that unite had singled out conservative political groups for greater scrutiny of their applications for tax-exempt status.
The question is who gave the order for enhanced scrutiny directed specifically at the Tea Party applicant’s. Specifically, where did those orders come from, and from where did they originate.
There is no doubt that this particular conflict/scandal could have far-reaching implications. Some are wondering if it reaches all the way to the White House.
It is not every day that the President of The United States just calls a Press Conference to explain some serious offense that happened within his administration. Especially this president who often seems to do everything he can to avoid the press, that is unless the event is a plum for his administration. Benghazi was a good example. As the President ran damage control, the one thing he did not do is make a personal appearance until somewhat later. Then it was, once again, the angry president, determined to clean up a mess not of his own doing, but the doing instead of his underlings. It seems he feels that he has to express that he is the smartest one in the pack, and these kids just continue to cut-up.
But, not this time. This time as the story exploded into scandal, President Obama comes on TV, not during prime time, like 8:00pm or something, but around 6:00 -6:30pm smack in the middle of the news, breaking in to express outrage, disdain, anger, and forceful action in the midst of a crisis, once again not of his own making, but those darned underlings, constantly making a mess of things. The president said that he was angry over this mess, he had no patience with it, and would not tolerate it.
However, at the back of everyone’s mind, especially with those who can tolerate the stench of Washington and it’s politics is “What did the White House know? and when did they know it? More important; What did the president know? and when did he know it? Are we watching the application of a carefully laid plan to cover-up White House involvement. Was the President directly involved? Is that why he suddenly calls a Press Conference?
IRS officials in Washington and at least two other offices were involved with investigating conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status, making clear that the effort reached well beyond the branch office in Cincinnati that was initially blamed, according to documents obtained by the Washington Post. The Post said that IRS officials at the agency’s Washington Headquarters sent queries to conservative groups asking about their donors. as well as other aspects of their operations. Officials in the El Monte and Laguna Niguel offices in California sent out similar questionnaires to Tea Party affiliated groups.
IRS officials in Cincinnati told conservatives seeking the status of “social welfare” groups that a task force in Washington was overseeing their applications, according to activists. The Washington Post said.
Already it is obvious that there is more to this than some local office in Cincinnati, it reaches not only across the country, but seems to originate in Washington. It does not seem to be the work of some rogue official, but the actual programmatic operation of an official Task Force, that no one knew existed in the first place.
Moreover, details of the IRS effort’s to target conservative groups reached the highest levels of the agency in May of 2012, far earlier than has been disclosed, according to Republican congressional aides briefed by the IRS and Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) on the details of their reviews.
The officials did not share the details of those inquires with Republican lawmakers who had been demanding to know whether the IRS was actually targeting conservative groups.
Sen. Orrin Hatch said that he had written the IRS three times last year after hearing concerns that conservative groups had been targeted by the IRS. In response to the first inquiry by the Senator Steve Miller, the current Acting IRS commissioner, responded that these groups were not being targeted by the IRS.
“Knowing what we know now”, Hatch said, “the IRS was at best being far from forth coming or at worse, being deliberately dishonest with Congress.
The scandal will not be wiped away by President Obama coming out on camera to express his frustrated disdain with the IRS and those involved in any cover-up of the facts in this matter. The Republicans smell blood and they will surely carry this one all the way to the bank, Congressional hearings and all. Nothing can be more profitable of course than if they can tie President Obama to this scandal. It all but assures their victory in 2014 as well 2016’s presidential bid. In a nut shell, that is what this is all about. The final victory, and their quest for the White House.
Be that as it may, despite the persistent efforts by conservatives to do this president in, it is becoming more and more obvious that the Obama Administration is making it all that much easier for them.
Have a great day. Keep your chin up, and remember folks…..We’re all in this together.
As usual, I look forward to hearing your views on the issue’s of the day. Until then, have a great day and …………….God Bless America!
