It is being reported that the United States is seriously considering arming Syrian rebel groups, just days after Syrian president Basher al-Assads’s forces re-captured the key city of Qusair.  According to the Associated press Secretary Kerry has said that the White House is planning to discuss sending weapons to some rebel groups opposing Assad.

Kerry will discuss giving lethal aide to vetted, moderate rebel units fighting Assad. They as the pro intervention John McCain has described them, are seen as the good guys by U.S. officials. But there are serious reservations with arming rebel forces, namely the extremist groups are also fighting against Assad. McCain feels that sorting out the good from the bad forces is do-able, the U.S.’s ability to selectively arm the right forces has been a big question mark. This has been one of the main reasons for U.S. hesitancy toward getting involved in the Civil conflict there.

The idea of arming any rebel forces is unbelievable. How the United States can possibly think that they can selectively arm rebel forces in our corner, is beyond my imagination.  Once the war ends, or even before that, for that matter, opposing rebel groups might get their hands on the weapons and turn them on us.  have we not had enough? Why is it that we have to get involved in yet another military conflict.  No doubt, the situation will get worse.  Then I guess we have to listen to McCain explain first how rebel opposition forces got their hands on the arms we sent, and then gulp out an explanation as why it is now necessary for the United States to be intervening in the war.

I was talking to a conservative friend who justified the intervention by saying that the United States always goes to the aid of those fighting for democracy and freedom.  Well, who said that they were fighting for democracy? Who said they were fighting for freedom?

I might add for the reader to consider, that Egypt rebel forces said that they were fighting for Democracy and Freedom too.  Now the Islamic Brotherhood is running the show.

I think we need to seriously consider what it is we are about to do. It should also be noted that every time we send aid to (those fighting for democracy and freedom), the loving nation that we are, we always seem to end up with boots on the ground, forces in the air, and dramatic pictures of our President standing in a line at Andrews AFB as we unload the dead and casualties of yet another military intervention in the name of – Democracy and freedom-, only to find ourselves as the enemy.

Sad commentary but so true.

That is my point of view, and as usual I look forward to your insights on this and all the issues of the day.

Have a great day and as usual………….God Bless America!

I am 62 years old. I've been blogging for several years. I am into History and Politics as well as currant events. The latter being the main issues covered on these pages. I was a Community Advocate for twenty years, and a volunteer aide in a State Representatives Office in my home state of Michigan. While I have basically ceased these activities, I still watch the world around me closely and report on it as much as I can, which I might add is often. I encourage comments on my Blogs. I only ask that we keep our opinions clean and without insults threats or intimidation. I hope you take time to read The Horton Journal, and look forward to your comments.
