A few days ago we were all, once again, jolted by the senseless murder of innocent people in a park in South Chicago. People just enjoying a night out with the kids, shooting hoops, and for once, family just having a good time. But this is South Chicago, a dangerous place to be out in the day light, it seems, much less when evening sets in. It was not long before a car pulls up, and its occupants began firing into the crowd. One infant dead, several others dead, as well as critically wounded.

What was the answer from public and community officials?  City officials, primarily Democrats out to justify tough gun control laws, the kind where no one except police are permitted to have one, cry out for a ban on assault weapons. Yet Chicago has some of the most stringent Gun Laws on the books anywhere in the United States. Still, it seems there is more violence in that city than anywhere in the country.  Then there was the community response.  We’ll have a peace march. We’ll take back our streets. Wow!!!

This coming week, the somber funerals, and more interviews of neighbors. But, the violence won’t stop. The reason is the City Officials are not willing to do anything about the gangs that rule the streets.  They know who the thugs are. They know who is doing all the shooting. They not only know who they are, they know where they are.

It is time…..No, past time for the city to do what has to be done to reclaim Chicago neighborhoods and stop the won-ton shooting of innocent people minding their own business. You do that by getting tough. You bust down the doors grab the thugs, take them down town, and rattle their cage.  You watch them like a hawk, follow them wherever they go. bust them for minor infractions. pull them over for a spot check.  When they cry discrimination, tell them you know who they are, what they are, and that their day is done.

No more of this six months for murder and back to the street. Life, or the death penalty. Make a big public show of the arrests, the pull overs, embarrassment, and every other tactic one can think of. They are on the front page. and know full well if they don’t tow the line, they are going down, hard and big time!

If they retaliate with another shooting, OK, start a sweep of arrests across the city. Once again, lots of PR, lots of Camera, If they pull a coat over their head, so no one can see them, rip it off so the whole world can see who they are. In short…..It should be Game on in Chicago!

Guess what, it won’t be long before the neighborhoods rise up too, and support their city for doing something about the violence that rules their streets. It also won’t be long before there is peace in the neighborhoods, and Mom and Dad, and the kids can go to the park and shoot some hoops without fearing for their very life!

That’s my point of view……….Let’s hear yours! Have a great weekend and take a moment to pray for the people of Chicago!

I am 62 years old. I've been blogging for several years. I am into History and Politics as well as currant events. The latter being the main issues covered on these pages. I was a Community Advocate for twenty years, and a volunteer aide in a State Representatives Office in my home state of Michigan. While I have basically ceased these activities, I still watch the world around me closely and report on it as much as I can, which I might add is often. I encourage comments on my Blogs. I only ask that we keep our opinions clean and without insults threats or intimidation. I hope you take time to read The Horton Journal, and look forward to your comments.
