IT IS NOT A QUESTION OF WHAT WE KNOW…..THE QUESTION IS WHAT IS IT THAT WE DO NOT KNOW?

I think that most of us think that not much goes on in this great country of ours that we do not know. Our media resource in The United States is so good that when something goes wrong, or goes amiss, we often find out mere moments after it happens. That with our remarkable free press, and open exchange of information if something really serious happens, we are a well-informed public. Or are we?

Consider if you will a recent article in the Wall Street Journal, dated February 5, 2014. – San Jose California, “The attack began just before 1 a.m. on April 16 2013, when someone slipped into an underground vault not far from  a busy freeway and cut telephone cables.

Within half an hour snipers opened fire on a nearby electrical substation. Shooting for nineteen minutes, they surgically knocked out 17 giant transformers that funnel power to Silicone Valley. A minute before a police car arrives the shooters disappear into the night”.

According to the Wall Street report, to avoid a blackout, electric grid officials re-routed power around the site and asked power plants in the Silicone Valley area to produce more electricity.  A national disaster was thus averted.  This largely unreported incident quietly became an issue of national concern at the highest levels of our government. But the American public knew nothing about it.

No one has been arrested or charged in this attack. However, one fact is assured, and that is that this was well planned, executed with professional precision, and is now considered the most significant incident of domestic terrorism involving the grid that has ever occurred.

Based on the chronological set of events of this incident, this is sure;  It was an obvious and blatant act of terrorism, and that the act was in fact conducted by trained professionals. It also might have been a soft strike to feel out how such an act might be conducted on a national basis, with a series of strike units acting at the same moment to shut down the entire United states Electrical Grid.  It should also be noted that such an incident would have a serious impact on U.S. national security for months because the transformers involved would take many months to build in order to restore electricity to the whole of The United States.

To me though, what struck me most was not what we might have learned from this incident, it was not a recognition that such an event might have serious implications on National Security. What bothered me most was that here it is a year later and we, The American People are just finding out about it. It makes me wonder how many such events actually occur without our knowledge. It makes me wonder who is lurking behind the scenes waiting to pounce, and take down the United States.  While this event did have serious implications on National Security, it raises the question of what our Government knows, what our government is doing behind the scenes, and whether or not you, and I, as well as all of our loved ones are in more serious danger than any of us could possibly imagine.

While it is true that sometimes what we do not know won’t hurt us, I think that if in fact, there are those out there, domestically working against us, and that their actions are seriously impacting the life, welfare and safety of the American people we have a right to know that this is in fact the case.

As a friend of mine would conclude……”Just sayin”.

That’s my point of view……….and I look forward to your response on this and all the issues of the day.

Have a good night and as usual…….God Bless America!

About THE HORTON JOURNAL A POLITICAL PERSPECTIVE

I am 62 years old. I've been blogging for several years. I am into History and Politics as well as currant events. The latter being the main issues covered on these pages. I was a Community Advocate for twenty years, and a volunteer aide in a State Representatives Office in my home state of Michigan. While I have basically ceased these activities, I still watch the world around me closely and report on it as much as I can, which I might add is often. I encourage comments on my Blogs. I only ask that we keep our opinions clean and without insults threats or intimidation. I hope you take time to read The Horton Journal, and look forward to your comments.
